    Can babies have dippy eggs

Babies can have dippy eggs and soldiers from around 6 months old, provided the eggs are hen’s eggs with a runny yolk and carry the Lion Stamp. They are a classic British breakfast.

The Lion Stamp indicates that the eggs meet British Lion standards for food safety, significantly reducing the risk of salmonella.

Introducing runny yolks can be a nutritious addition to a baby-led weaning diet, offering valuable nutrients like iron and healthy fats.

It’s important to ensure the eggs are fresh and properly handled to maintain safety for your little one for an easy breakfast.

What other ways can I serve eggs to baby

Eggs can be served to babies from six months old in a variety of baby-led weaning-friendly ways.

A soft boiled egg or hard-boiled eggs, cut into manageable pieces, offer a gentle texture that is easy for babies to hold and gum.

Scrambled eggs another British classic, cooked until soft and fluffy without seasoning other than a little black pepper, provide a smooth and moist option that encourages self-feeding.

Another approach is to prepare egg yolk custards or steamed egg puddings, which are delicate and easy to swallow.

Small slices of omelette made with finely chopped vegetables can introduce different flavours and textures while ensuring the egg is soft enough for little mouths.

All these methods allow babies to explore eggs safely while developing their motor skills and palate.

    Ingredient information

Eggs - I have used free range eggs large eggs with the lion stamp for this recipe as they are the best to use for baby from 6 months old.

Bread - I have used wholemeal bread for this recipe but you can use your choice of bread. A sourdough slice of bread is another good choice too. Bread sticks are another great option.

Butter - I have used unsalted butter for the recipe as this is best to use for baby from 6 months old.

    Serving suggestion

You can serve the eggs and toast fingers with other easy baby-led weaning friendly options such as soft steamed vegetable sticks (carrots, broccoli, or sweet potato), ripe avocado slices, and mild cheese cubes.

Adding a bowl of fresh fruit such as mixed berries or small fruit pieces provides a fresh, sweet contrast.

These simple, yummy choices ensure that both little ones and adults can enjoy the food.

    Storage instructions

The egg recipe can be kept in the fridge in air-tight container, a ziplock bag or you can wrap tightly with plastic wrap for up to 3 days in the fridge.

Or you can freeze the eggs in freezer-safe bags or an airtight container for up to 3 months.

Which is great as you will always have a lunch, dinner or snack in the freezer ready to be defrosted for a quick meal or snack.

If you want to defrost the best way to do this is to take the eggs out of the freezer, and leave in the fridge overnight until fully thawed.

The eggs are best eaten chilled.

Once removed from the freezer the eggs will not be able to be frozen again.

Equipment used to help with this recipe

Airtight container - I much prefer the click-shut lids on these containers compared to others. They are also dishwasher and freezer safe and BPA free, so very suitable for food use.

Saucepan - So many pan sets out there but I particularly like to use pans with a non-stick surface for ease of cleaning and ones that are suitable for different types of hob surface.
