    Baby friendly flapjacks

These cornflake flapjacks are ideal for baby-led weaning and toddlers because they use only a few minimal, natural ingredients, making them both simple and wholesome for baby and a great twist on the usual traditional flapjacks.

The combination of oats and crushed cornflakes provides a yummy texture that is easy for little hands to hold and encourages self-feeding, while also offering essential fibre and energy-sustaining carbohydrates.

Free from added sugars and artificial additives, these flapjacks support healthy taste development and are gentle on young digestive systems.

The straightforward recipe also ensures parents can prepare a nutritious snack quickly with confidence.

    Oats for baby

Oats are an excellent ingredient for babies and toddlers, particularly in baby-led weaning, due to their gentle texture and nutritional benefits.

They are naturally soft when cooked, making them easy for little ones to chew and swallow safely.

Rich in fibre, oats support healthy digestion and help maintain stable energy levels throughout the day.

Oats provide essential nutrients such as iron, which is vital for baby's growth and brain development.

Their versatility allows them to be used in a variety of recipes—from porridges to baked goods—making it simple for parents to introduce wholesome, homemade meals that encourage independent eating.

    Ingredient information

Oats - I have used oats as one of the main ingredients to the recipe as they make the flapjacks taste like that flapjack flavour that we know and love.

Cornflakes - I have crushed the cornflakes which make a lovely texture for the baby and toddler. They are great tasting with the oats.

Greek yogurt - Greek yogurt is the ingredient that binds the flapjacks together.

Flaxseed - I have added flaxseeds for added nutrition and you cannot taste them either within the recipe.

    Serving suggestion

The healthy snack would be great served with a fruit puree or with a mango pot or drizzled with smooth peanut butter or your favourite nut butter.

You can simply serve this delicious recipe on their own as a snack on the go, breakfast on the go or as a lunchbox item that will keep older kids filled up throughout the day.

You can add in a handful of dark chocolate chips to the recipe for older kids too, for delicious sweet treats.

Other sweet treat recipes you may like: Oats and apple cookies, Breakfast bars for baby, Oat bars or Berry bliss balls for baby.

    Storage instructions

Once the flapjacks have cooled and at room temperature, you can store the flapjack recipe in airtight containers large or small, in the fridge for up to 5 days.

The flapjacks can be stored in airtight containers or a freezer bag and kept in the freezer for up to 3 months.

Great for bringing out when you need them!

To defrost the soft flapjacks from the freezer, leave the bars in the fridge overnight.

Once defrosted they will keep for 3 days in an airtight container.

Do not re freeze, once defrosted.

Equipment used to help with this recipe

Airtight container - I much prefer the click-shut lids on these containers compared to others. They are also dishwasher and freezer safe and BPA free, so very suitable for food use.

Large bowl - Definitely choose a stainless steel one - they are lighter than the stone or glass ones and very easy to clean.
