Can a 6 month old have lasagne

A 6-month-old can enjoy a lasagne turkey recipe as part of baby-led weaning, provided it is prepared with age-appropriate ingredients and textures.

Using soft-cooked vegetables, finely shredded meat, and a mild cheese it can make the dish both nutritious and easy for little ones to handle.

Making individual portions of lasagne is a great way to prepare a meal; these can be frozen and reheated when needed, saving time on busy days while ensuring your baby enjoys a homemade, wholesome meal.

Can I use turkey mince for the recipe

Turkey mince can absolutely be used for a lasagne instead of cooked leftover turkey in a turkey lasagne recipe suitable for baby-led weaning.

Using turkey mince allows for better control over the texture, making it easier for little ones to manage while they develop their chewing skills.

It also cooks quickly and can be seasoned lightly to suit a baby’s palate.

Turkey mince blends well with soft vegetables and mild sauces, creating a nutritious and easily digestible meal that supports self-feeding and exploration of flavours.

    Ingredient information

Onion - I have used an onion for the lasagne to add flavour to the lasagne. Cooked onions are great for baby for baby led weaning in pasta dishes.

Olive oil - I have used a little olive oil to brown the onions, you can use an avocado oil or unsalted butter if you prefer.

Garlic - I have used a little bit of garlic granules, you could use a clove of fresh grated garlic if you prefer.

Mixed herbs - Mixed herbs are a great allrounder for many different recipes. A great way to add a little flavour and depth to the recipe. You can also use Italian seasoning too or s a little fresh basil too.

Tomato puree - I have added tomato puree as a quick way to create a sauce for the recipe.

Turkey - I have used some leftover turkey for the recipe, you could also use cooked leftover chicken for the recipe or lean ground turkey too.

Cheese - I have used some mature cheddar cheese for the recipe, you could use grated mozzarella/fresh mozzarella or a mixture of grated mozzarella and grated cheese if you wanted to.

Lasagne pasta sheets - I have used dried lasagne sheets for the recipe, you could use fresh lasagne sheets too if you had some.

    Serving suggestion

The turkey lasagne would be great served with fresh ingredients such as cucumber batons, or quartered tomatoes.

You could serve with vibrant veg such as tender stem broccoli or peas or sweetcorn corn on the cob.

Other recipes you may like: Butternut squash lasagne, Spinach and ricotta lasagne or Margherita pasta.

Some cooked lasagne sheets cut into small squares ready to assemble the turkey lasagne

    Storage instructions

The lasagne can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days, stored in an airtight container.

If you wanted to freeze the lasagne, you will need to make sure that the lasagne has cooled down to room temperature for 10-15 minutes before transferring to either a freezer bag or airtight container.

You could also wrap the lasagne in plastic wrap followed by aluminum foil to store in the freezer.

Ensure that the bag/airtight container is labelled with the item and the date. I use masking tape to label the airtight container.

To defrost the lasagne, leave it in the fridge overnight and make sure that it is fully defrosted, before re heating.

To reheat, place the lasagne in a baking dish and heat on 180C or 350F for 15-20 minutes.

Equipment used to help with this recipe

Airtight container - I much prefer the click-shut lids on these containers compared to others. They are also dishwasher and freezer safe and BPA free, so very suitable for food use.

Muffin cups - I love reusable kitchen stuff! These silicone muffin cases are dishwasher and freezer safe and can be used in the oven up to 230 degrees C! Ideal for individual baby portions.

Muffin tin - A non-stick muffin pan that will easily clean any spills from the muffin cases. You will need one of these to easily hold the muffin cases.

A yummy lasagne recipe for baby led weaning and the whole family of course. A great way to use up leftover turkey from the Christmas Roast dinner.

    Ingredients

    Instructions

    1. Start by preheating your oven to 180C or 350F. Prepare a muffin tin with muffin cups and set aside. I have used reusable silicone cups.
    2. Take a small frying pan and add the lasagne sheet to the frying pan (off the heat) and add in 250ml hot water with a drizzle of olive oil. Leave to stand for 5 minutes or as long as the turkey sauce takes.
    3. Using a small saucepan, pour the olive oil into the saucepan and add the diced onion with a little black pepper.
    4. Cook the onion for 10 minutes or so on a medium heat.
    5. Add in the garlic granules, mixed herbs, tomato puree and cooked turkey and mix together using a spoon until all of the turkey is covered in the tomato puree.
    6. Next pour the 250ml of lasagne water into the tomato sauce. Mix together and leave to cook on a low heat for 5 minutes.
    7. In the meantime, Take your soaked lasagne sheet and cut the sheet into 18 small squares and set aside.
    8. Take your prepared muffin tin and spoon in a teaspoon of the turkey mixture.
    9. Next take a square of the lasagne sheet and place on top and repeat on the other 5 cups.
    10. Spoon the meat sauce onto the lasagne sheets and repeat this pattern until you have used up all of the turkey sauce and lasagne squares.
    11. Sprinkle the tops with cheese and pop into the preheated oven for25 minutes until golden brown.
    12. Leave to cool before serving to your baby.

    Notes

You can easily make the recipe gluten free by using gluten free lasagne sheets.

To make the recipe dairy free use a dairy free cheddar cheese.

To make the recipe vegetarian vegan use a meat free alternative and dairy free cheese.

Hope you and your family whole enjoy!
