    Tater Tots Recipe For Baby

Homemade oven tater tots are a yummy recipe for babies and toddlers due to their simplicity using simple ingredients and nutritional benefits, made with just four ingredients which can sometimes be better than store-bought versions, why not try and make your own homemade tater tots.

This easy recipe provides a fun and engaging way for little ones to explore new textures and flavours, all while being easy to prepare.

By using fresh regular potatoes, parents can ensure their children receive essential vitamins and minerals without any unnecessary additives or preservatives found in store-bought alternatives for those tater tot lovers.

Baking the tots is a great idea instead of frying results in a healthier option that maintains the delightful fluffiness toddlers and baby will love, making mealtimes enjoyable and stress-free with minimal cooking time. A fantastic version for baby.

    Finger Foods For Baby

Tater tots are an excellent finger food option for babies and toddlers due to their appealing texture and size, making them easy for little hands to grasp.

These bite-sized tots are soft with a fluffy interior, allowing for easy chewing, which is perfect for developing gums and emerging teeth.

They can be customised with a variety of nutritious ingredients, such as vegetables or whole grains, ensuring that the meal is both tasty and wholesome.

Their soft exterior adds an exciting contrast that encourages exploration and enjoyment of different flavours.

Tater tots provide a fun and versatile way to introduce new foods while fostering independence during mealtimes.

    Ingredient information

Potatoes - I have used white potatoes but you can use red potatoes or even sweet potatoes, if using sweet potatoes you may need to add in a little more flour so that you can form the tot shape.

Oregano - A well known staple in my cupboard, I love this herb and use it across so many of my recipes. Works so well in a pasta recipe. If you prefer a fresh herb you can use fresh parsley.

Garlic - I have used garlic granules for this recipe you can use garlic powder or onion powder with a little bit of black pepper or you could use 1 clove of grated garlic for the recipe too if you prefer,

Flour - I have used self raising flour but you can use plain flour or a gluten-free flour to make the whole recipe gluten-free.

    Serving suggestion

The tots would be great served as the perfect side dish with chicken nuggets or fish fingers with a ketchup or sour cream dipping sauce. This is great for baby led weaning and toddlers and older kids too.

These could be great for lunches or picnics on the go. This is a great base recipe as the tots can be easily customisable by adding in some fun ingredients like little bits of cheddar cheese, mozzarella and quartered tomatoes.

Other recipes you may like: Broccoli tots, French fries, Cauli tots or potato hash browns.

    Storage instructions

The tots can be kept in an airtight safe container in the fridge for up to 3 days, alternatively you can store in the same way or in freezer airlock bags for up to 3 months in the freezer!

A great go to snack for when you need it! Make sure that the tots have cooled down at room temperature before transferring to a freezer bag or airtight container.

If you wanted to reheat the tots, you will only be able to reheat once from the fridge.

I would suggest heating them up in the oven, at 180C or 350F, for 15 minutes. Leave to cool before serving to your baby. You could reheat in the microwave just be careful with this heating method for baby as you could get random hot spots in the food which can be a hazard for babies.

Equipment used to help with this recipe

Baking sheet - I have chosen to use a non-stick and BPA free baking sheet - they are easy to clean and, if you buy more than one, easily stackable and easily stored.

Large mixing bowl - Definitely choose a stainless steel one - they are lighter than the stone or glass ones and very easy to clean.

Airtight container - I much prefer the click-shut lids on these containers compared to others. They are also dishwasher and freezer safe and BPA free, so very suitable for food use.

    Ingredients

    Instructions

    1. Start by preheating your oven to a medium heat of 180C or 350F and prepare a baking sheet pan or baking dish with a piece of parchment paper or aluminum foil.
    2. Pop all your ingredients into a large bowl and mash the cooked potatoes.
    3. Mix together using a spoon and then take approx a teaspoon of the potato mixture and roll together using your hands and then form the potato to make a tot shape, and place on a baking sheet,
    4. Continue until you have used up all of the mix.
    5. Pop the baking tray into your preheated oven. The cook time is 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
    6. Leave to cool before serving to your baby.

    Notes

To make the recipe gluten-free, you will need to use a gluten-free self raising flour or gluten-free plain flour.

You could add in a little grated cheddar cheese to make the tots yummy and cheesy. This would then not make the recipe vegan and dairy free however.

Hope you and your whole family enjoy!
