Benefits of Avocado for Infants
Creamy avocado is an excellent choice for baby led weaning due to its soft texture, making it easy for babies to hold and chew safely, which is why this avocado cottage cheese toast is a great BLW recipe.
It is rich in healthy fats, particularly monounsaturated fats, which are crucial for brain development and overall growth.
Avocados provide important nutrients such as fibre, vitamins E, C, and B6, as well as folate, all of which support a baby’s immune system and digestive health.
The natural creaminess and mild flavour also encourage babies to explore new tastes without overwhelming their developing palates. A great way to start baby-led weaning.
Cottage Cheese Recipe For Baby
Full fat cottage cheese is an excellent choice for baby-led weaning due to its rich nutritional profile and soft texture.
It provides a good source of protein and calcium, essential for your baby's growth and bone development.
The creamy consistency makes it easy for little hands to grasp and for babies to chew and swallow safely.
Full fat varieties contain beneficial fats that support brain development.
Its mild flavour also allows babies to explore different tastes without overwhelming their palate, making it a versatile addition to a balanced weaning diet.
Ingredient information
Whole grain bread - I have used a wholemeal bread for the recipe but you can use other slices of bread such as a white bread or sourdough bread instead.
Cottage cheese - I have used a full-fat cottage cheese for the recipe, you can use a full-fat cream cheese too as an alternative.
Avocado - I have used an avocado. Fresh avocados are a great weaning ingredient and usually babies love avocado mashed with other fruits such as banana or strawberry. A plain avocado toast is a great option too.
Parsey - I have used a little dried parsley for garnish but you can leave this out if you like.
Serving suggestion
This is a great recipe if you needed a make ahead lunch or even a snack or healthy breakfast for busy mornings!
You could serve the toast as part of a lunch so some examples of additional lunch items could be, sliced cucumber, fresh tomatoes, cheese batons, sweet potato or some Greek yogurt.
You can add a squeeze of fresh lemon juice and black pepper.
Other recipes you may like: French toast, Hummus rolls or Cheesy roll ups.
Storage instructions
The cottage cheese avocado toast can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days, stored in an airtight container.
If you wanted to freeze the toast, you will need to make sure that the toast has cooled down at room temperature before transferring to either a freezer bag or airtight container. (The toast without the toppings).
You can freeze into individual portions if you prefer. Ensure that the bag/airtight container is labelled with the item and the date. I use masking tape to label the airtight container.
To defrost the toast, leave in the fridge overnight and make sure that it is fully defrosted, before re heating.
Once the toast has been defrosted you will not be able to reheat or re freeze..
Equipment used to help with this recipe
Airtight container - I much prefer the click-shut lids on these containers compared to others. They are also dishwasher and freezer safe and BPA free, so very suitable for food use.
