Large parsnips - I love parsnips and believe they are very underrated as a vegetable for the family and baby’s diet or first food. Making a parsnip puree is great for baby food recipes and of course for baby led weaning.
Apple - I have added a little apple into the parsnip puree for sweetness and a dose of extra yumminess. You can leave this out and just have the parsnips.
Serving suggestion
The parsnip recipe would be great served alongside a roast dinner that you are making the first time if you are a little nervous about it, you could serve alongside roasted carrots or carrot puree, mashed potato or potato puree and shredded chicken or whatever your baby’s palate fancies.
You can serve the baby food puree with a little pulled pork for added protein or egg veggie bites for veggies.

Storage instructions
The parsnip puree can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
It is possible to freeze the pots, they can be frozen for up to 3 months.
You can also use ice cube trays to portion the parsnip puree to store in the freezer for frozen cubes of parsnip.
Make sure you leave the pots overnight in the fridge before serving.
Once defrosted you will not be able to re freeze

Nutri bullet - I have found a blender to be an invaluable tool in the preparation of many of my baby led weaning recipes.
Airtight container - I much prefer the click-shut lids on these containers compared to others. They are also dishwasher and freezer safe and BPA free, so very suitable for food use.
Kilner jars - Hygienic glass jars that you can purchase either with a screw top or an airtight clip top. Ideal for storing small amounts of homemade ketchup and chutney.

Easy Nutritious Parsnip Puree Baby Weaning Recipe
Parsnip puree are a great option for babies and toddlers. You can customise by adding different fruit and veggies to make a yummy meal for baby.
Ingredients
Instructions
- Start by adding the chopped parsnips to a large pot and fill the saucepan with hot water until all the parsnips are covered. You can use a steamer basket if you prefer.
- Boil the parsnips for 10-15 minutes.
- Meanwhile, peel, core and cut up the apple into chunks and add to the parsnip and cook for a further 5 minutes until the apples are soft.
- Once the parsnips and apples are soft, drain reserving some of the parsnip water and add to a Nutri bullet, food processor or hand blender.
- Add a little water of the cooking water to the Nutri bullet and blitz to a smooth puree, you can add more of the cooking liquid for the right consistency for your baby.
- Spoon into a bowl, jars or container and leave to cool before serving to your baby.
Notes
You can add other fruits or root vegetables to the parsnip puree such as carrots, sweet potatoes, potatoes, pears and blackberries.
You can add a little breast milk to the parsnip puree for extra nutrition. A great way to make a quick puree for weaning.
