    Avocado for baby 6 months

Avocado is an ideal first food for babies from six months old due to its smooth texture, natural creaminess, and rich nutritional profile.

It is packed with healthy fats, particularly monounsaturated fats, which are essential for brain development during infancy.

Avocados provide important vitamins and minerals such as vitamin E, potassium, and folate.

When combined with cottage cheese in this avocado and cottage cheese dip, it offers a balanced introduction to protein and calcium alongside healthy fats, making it both nutritious and easy for babies to digest.

This combination is gentle on little tummies and encourages exploration of new flavours and textures, supporting the baby-led weaning journey.

    Cottage cheese baby recipe

Cottage cheese is an excellent versatile ingredient for babies and toddlers from 6 months old due to its mild flavour, soft texture, and high protein content.

It is gentle on little tummies and can be easily mixed or paired with a variety of foods to introduce new tastes and textures. Cottage cheese can be served plain, added to mashed fruits like banana or pear, mixed into vegetable purees such as sweet potato or carrot, or combined with soft scrambled eggs for a nutritious breakfast.

It also works well as a base in savoury dishes like mini cheese and spinach muffins, or blended into smoothies alongside avocado and berries for a creamy consistency.

This adaptability makes cottage cheese a convenient and nutritious staple in early weaning recipes.

    Ingredient information

Avocado - This is a great ingredient for weaning, so many different baby-led weaning recipes can be created by using an avocado such as avocado pasta recipe or black bean avocado bites. Using ripe avocados for the recipe is best to achieve maximum flavour and that creamy texture.

Cottage cheese - I have used cottage cheese for the recipe to add creaminess and added protein to fill little tummies. Another great weaning ingredient.

Cream cheese - Yes, another great weaning ingredient safe for babies from 6 months old. I have added in a little cream cheese for extra creaminess and to create a smooth texture.

Lemon - I have added a little lemon juice for flavour and to help to keep that vibrancy of the green avocado, as the acidity in the lemon helps with this. You can of course use lime juice as well if you like.

    Serving suggestion

I have served this avocado cottage cheese dip with breadsticks and raw veggies such as red pepper slices, carrot and cucumber sticks. Great for baby’s first finger foods. You can cook the carrot from 6 months old and serve pitta bread strips instead of the breadsticks if you like for a softer texture.

You could serve this yummy snack in a sandwich and use it as a spread or even as part of a wrap! I find myself eating this too! So a lovely dip for all the family!

    Storage instructions

Store the creamy avocado dip in an airtight container for up to 3 days in the fridge.

You can freeze the dip in an ice cube tray if you like and portion the dip so that you can use what you need.

To defrost the dip leave in the fridge overnight in an airtight container and enjoy the next day when it is fully thawed.

The dip will be good for 3 days after this.

Once thawed you will not be able to re freeze. The dip can be enjoyed at room temperature but for up to 3 hours.

Equipment used to help with this recipe

Nutri bullet - I have found a blender to be an invaluable tool in the preparation of many of my baby led weaning recipes.

Airtight container - I much prefer the click-shut lids on these containers compared to others. They are also dishwasher and freezer safe and BPA free, so very suitable for food use.

Ice cube trays - I found that these large ice cube silicone moulds were ideal for freezing individual baby portions.

    Notes

You could serve the cottage cheese avocado dip on toast slices from 6 months old.

Why not try using Greek yogurt or sour cream instead of the cream cheese to switch things up!

You could make the recipe dairy free by using a dairy free cream cheese instead of the cottage cheese.

Hope you and your whole family enjoy!
