Can a Baby Have An Ice lolly

Yes, babies can have an ice lolly from around six months old, but it is best to offer homemade versions made from natural ingredients like pureed fruit or breast milk, without added glucose syrup or artificial flavourings, which is why this strawberries and cream lollies are great.

Homemade ice lollies provide a safe and nutritious way for little ones to enjoy a cooling treat while introducing them to different flavours and textures.

Always ensure the lolly is soft enough to prevent choking and supervise your baby during feeding.

Do Ice Lollies Soothe Teething Gums

A homemade ice lolly can be an effective and natural way to soothe teething gums for babies practising baby led weaning.

The cold temperature helps to numb sore gums and reduce inflammation, providing gentle relief for discomfort. When made with wholesome ingredients, such as pureed fruit and water or milk, these lollies not only offer comfort but also introduce new flavours and nutrients appropriate for little ones.

It is important to ensure the lolly is soft enough to avoid choking hazards and to supervise the baby at all times while they enjoy it.

    Ingredient information

Strawberries - Delicious strawberries are a great weaning fruit that can be quartered, mashed or blitzed in a food processor. Perfect for adding to porridge or plain Greek yogurt.

Cream - I have used a double cream for this recipe. Feel free to use a plant based alternative.

    Serving suggestion

The ice lollies are great served on their own! You can serve them after a main meal such as spaghetti bolognaise, cottage pies or a bean burger.

Do not leave them at room temperature as they will melt on a hot day.

Why not make an extra strawberry puree using fresh strawberries blitzed in a food processor or Nutri Bullet, for dipping.

The delicious combination of strawberries with the strawberries and cream lolly is so yummy.

You could add a nut butter such as peanut butter or tree nuts blizted or as served as a butter to drizzle over the ice lollies.

    Storage instructions

The lollies are best kept in the freezer as they are a freezer item.

They can be kept in the freezer for up to 3 months which is great! If the lollies defrost you will not be able to re freeze.

You could also freeze using a large ice cube tray and place a stick in the middle, to make ice pops.

Once frozen overnight you can remove the lollies and store in a freezer bag, so that you can reuse the moulds for more lollies if needed.

Equipment used to help with this recipe

Lolly moulds These ice lolly (popsicle) silicone moulds are designed to be easily used and removed with the wooden lolly sticks. Very versatile and can be used to freeze purees and yogurt for a great homemade treat.

Nutri bullet I have found a blender to be an invaluable tool in the preparation of many of my baby led weaning recipes.

    2. Spoon the double cream over the top of the strawberries, no need to mix.
    3. Pop the lids and the sticks into the lollies and place into the freezer for at least 4-5 hours. Overnight is best.

    Notes

To make the recipe vegan and dairy free, you will need to use a dairy free cream.

You can use other berries for this recipe such as raspberries or blackberries.

You can design the lollies differently for example the lollies could have a strawberry top and creamy bottom. Babies will love the cream flavour.

If you are using different moulds be wary of the serving size as you may need more strawberries and cream for the ice cream recipe.

Hope you and your whole family enjoy!
