Can Baby Have Raw Apple
Babies can be introduced to raw apples BLW from around six months of age, provided the apple is prepared safely in an age-appropriate way to minimise a choking hazard.
It is essential to wash and peel the apple thoroughly before offering it to your baby. To make it suitable for a six-month-old, slice the apple into thin, manageable slices so that your baby can grab and chew easily.
Alternatively, you can grate the apple to create a soft texture for a perfect finger food that is easier to handle for those new to solids.
Always supervise your baby while eating, and avoid offering whole apple slices that might be difficult to chew or swallow safely. If you’re unsure or worried, bake the apple first if serving in slices.
Benefits of Apple For BLW
Apples provide excellent benefits for babies practising baby-led weaning. They are rich in essential nutrients such as vitamin C, dietary fibre, and antioxidants, which support healthy immune function and digestion.
The natural sweetness and firm texture of apples make them appealing and easy for babies to grasp and chew, promoting oral motor development.
Introducing apples in their natural form, either steamed or raw grated, encourages self-feeding skills and sensory exploration, all while providing a wholesome, low-allergen option suitable for early stages of BLW.
