Is Kiwi Safe For BLW?
Ripe kiwi is a safe and nutritious fruit for baby-led weaning, typically suitable for babies from around six months of age who are starting solid foods in the first year.
This vibrant fruit is rich in vitamin C and vitamin E, as well as dietary fibre, making it an excellent addition to your little one’s diet. When introducing kiwi BLW, ensure it is ripe, soft, and cut into manageable pieces to prevent choking hazards.
Some babies may have sensitivities to kiwi, so it's advisable to monitor for any allergic reactions such as a rash around the mouth and consult a healthcare professional if unsure.
Overall, kiwi can be a delightful and healthy finger foods choice for your baby's self-feeding journey.
Can Babies Eat the Skin?
Babies can eat the skin off kiwi from around six months old, but it is important to approach this with caution as it can be a choking hazard.
Kiwi skin is edible and packed with nutrients, but it also has a furry texture that some babies may find off-putting.
When introducing kiwi to your little one, it's advisable to start with just the flesh to see their reaction as it can sometimes cause an allergic reaction or tummy troubles, and once you're confident that they can handle it, you can offer small pieces of the skin as well from around 9 months old.
Always ensure the kiwi is ripe, as this will make the skin softer and easier for your baby to chew. As with any new food, monitor for any signs of allergy or discomfort.
Ice Pops For Baby
Homemade ice pops are a fantastic addition to the baby-led weaning, offering a refreshing and nutritious way to introduce new flavours and textures to little ones.
Made from pureed fruits, vegetables, or even yogurt, these treats can be tailored to suit your child's taste preferences while ensuring they are free from added sugars and artificial ingredients.
The coolness of the ice pops can also provide soothing relief for teething babies, making them a practical choice for easing discomfort.
They encourage self-feeding, allowing children to grasp the popsicle and explore their sensory experiences, helping to foster independence and confidence in their eating habits.

Whole kiwi - Kiwi’s are great for baby and a great option for baby-led weaning. Blitzed to a fruit puree into this ice pop recipe it is a great recipe for a sweet treat, teething gums are a fun snack. A great way to make snack time fun for older kids too.
Yogurt - I have used a plain natural yogurt for this recipe. You could use a plain Greek yogurt too for the recipe that would be great.
Serving suggestion
The ice pops are great served as they are.
You could serve alongside a mango pot or spinach and egg fingers for a great baby led weaning meal.
The pops are great for teething also so they can be brought out as a snack too.
Other recipes you may like: Milk ice lollies, Cottage cheese fruit pots or Frozen Greek yogurt bars.
Storage instructions
The pops are obviously best kept in the freezer as they are a freezer item.
They can be kept in the freezer for up to 3 months which is great! If the pops defrost you will not be able to re freeze.
You could also freeze using a large ice cube trays and place a stick in the middle if you did not have the moulds. A great addition to your snack routine.
Once frozen overnight you can remove the lollies and store in a freezer bag or airtight container, so that you can reuse the moulds for more lollies if needed. I tend to do this so I have more on the go.
