Can You Give Apple To Baby

Yes, you can give apple and pureed apple for baby for baby-led weaning, and it is generally considered safe and suitable.

Apples are rich in vitamins and fibre, making them a healthy choice for introducing solids.

For BLW, it’s best to prepare the apple by peeling it, baking it, removing the core, and cutting it into soft, manageable pieces that your baby can easily hold and chew.

Steaming or lightly cooking the apple can soften it further, reducing any choking risk.

Always supervise your baby while they eat and ensure the texture is appropriate for their developmental stage.

Other Ways To Serve Apple To Baby

Apples can be served to babies in a variety of ways suitable for baby-led weaning.

Steaming apple slices until soft makes them easy to grasp and gentle on little teeth, while baking or roasting apple wedges with a sprinkle of cinnamon adds natural sweetness and warmth to make yummy apple baby food.

Offering grated raw apple alongside a dip like yogurt can introduce different textures, provided the baby is comfortable with firmer foods.

Blending cooked apple into apple baby puree to make homemade baby-friendly muffins or mixing it into porridge can incorporate the fruit into meals in a subtle yet nutritious way. This can be a really great base to so many different recipes.

Always ensure pieces are appropriately sized and soft enough to prevent choking hazards.

    Ingredient information

Fresh apples - I have used Bramley apples for this apple recipe as I feel like these apples are a great option for babies as they break down so easily when cooked and leave a lovely flavour and stewed apple.

Cinnamon - I have used a little cinnamon for added flavour and sweetness.

Pastry - I have used a puff pastry for this recipe that is so great for a croissant like texture.

Unsalted butter - I have used a melted unsalted butter to create that golden brown colour when cooked.

    Serving suggestion

The pastry would be great served on its own, it can be a great breakfast recipe on the go for those busy mornings! Or it can be made ahead of time and kept in the fridge overnight until the morning.

If like me, you look for low sugar desserts for your baby and toddler, this is a great little dessert option too that looks really yummy and great served with a plain yogurt.

The perfect recipe for baby and adults, I love it when we all can have the same thing to eat makes things so much easier! A recipe the entire family can enjoy.

    Storage instructions

The pastry finger food can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.

It is possible to serve the puree pastries at room temperature.

You can freeze the pastry in airtight containers, freezer bags or any storage containers you have.

They can be frozen for up to 3 months. You can also use ice cube trays or separate pots to portion the baby food puree to store in the freezer if you have any left. You can then use the apple puree for adding to plain yogurt or mix with other veggies.

Make sure you leave the pastries overnight in the fridge before serving. You could reheat in the oven on 180C or 350F for 10 minutes.

Once frozen you will not be able to refreeze.

Equipment used to help with this recipe

Kilner jars - These are snack sized glass pots with easy push-on silicone lids which are water tight and leak-proof making them ideal for carrying light bites and snacks on-the-go.

Nutri bullet - I have found a blender to be an invaluable tool in the preparation of many of my baby led weaning recipes.

Airtight container - I much prefer the click-shut lids on these containers compared to others. They are also dishwasher and freezer safe and BPA free, so very suitable for food use.

Saucepan - So many pan sets out there but I particularly like to use pans with a non-stick surface for ease of cleaning and ones that are suitable for different types of hob surface.

    4. Open out your puff pastry sheet landscape and cut into 4 strips and again in half so you have 8 strips.
    5. Spread a thin layer of the pureed apples along each pastry strip.
    6. Roll the pastry up and brush the tops with melted butter.
    7. Pop onto the baking sheet and pop into the oven for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
