It provides a good source of protein from the eggs, combined with carbohydrates from the bread, which offers children sustained energy.
To keep it balanced and suitable for little ones, opt for wholegrain or seeded bread and cook the eggy bread with minimal oil or butter.

Ingredient information
Bread - You can use white bread, whole grain bread or wholemeal bread for the recipe.
Egg - Eggs are a great source of protein for babies and toddlers starting baby led weaning. I have used a free range egg.
Milk - I have used whole milk for the recipe, you can use a dairy free alternative if you prefer.
Olive oil - I have used a little olive oil to fry the eggy bread. Other oils such as avocado oil or coconut oil ca be used to.
Parsley - I have used a little parsley for colour and flavour to make the eggy bread a bit different.
Serving suggestion
You can serve the eggy bread on its own quite nicely, if you did want to make this as part of a lunch.
I would add these to a plate alongside some chopped stone fruit and veg, like a nectarine and/or plum, mini cucumbers and some grated cheddar cheese which can be sprinkled on top of the eggy bread.
If you wanted to go that little bit further, you could sprinkle the cheese on top and grill slightly to melt! Yum!
Other great recipes that include egg that can be a lunch or a great snack are: Dipped bananas, Baby French toast recipe, Spanish Omelette, Egg and cheese crusts or Baked egg cups.
Storage instructions
The easy baby eggy bread recipe can be kept in the fridge in airtight containers or a freezer-bag for up to 3 days in the fridge.
Or you can freeze the rolls in freezer bags or an airtight container for up to 3 months.
Which is great as you will always have a lunch, dinner or snack in the freezer ready to be defrosted for a quick meal or snack.
If you want to defrost the best way to do this is to take the eggy bread out of the freezer, and leave in the fridge overnight until fully thawed.
The eggy bread is best eaten chilled, as they do not reheat to well, If you want to reheat you will need to heat in the oven on 180C or 350F for 5 minutes.
Once reheated the eggy bread will not be able to be frozen again.
Equipment used to help with this recipe
Airtight container - I much prefer the click-shut lids on these containers compared to others. They are also dishwasher and freezer safe and BPA free, so very suitable for food use.
Frying pan - I love the non-stick surface of this particular frying pan and it’s suitable for all types of hob.
