Can a 6 Month Old Eat Eggs
Yes, a 6-month-old can eat eggs, provided they are introduced carefully and there is no family history of egg allergies.
Eggs are a great source of protein and essential nutrients for your baby’s development. A great way to add nutrition into baby’s diet.
When offering eggs for the first time, it’s best to start with well-cooked forms such as scrambled or boiled to reduce the risk of choking and ensure digestibility.
Here are some simple egg recipe ideas for baby-led weaning and easy breakfasts: softly scrambled eggs, boiled egg yolk mashed with avocado, egg muffins with finely chopped vegetables, and steamed egg custard made with just egg and breast milk or formula.
Always observe for any allergic reactions and consult your paediatrician if unsure.
Cottage Cheese For Babies?
Cottage cheese is generally considered safe for babies from around 6 months old, as it is a good source of protein, calcium, and healthy fats essential for growth and development.
Its soft, crumbly texture makes it easy for babies to swallow and digest, especially when introduced as part of a balanced weaning diet.
When offering cottage cheese, it’s important to choose a full-fat, plain variety without added salt or flavourings, and to observe your baby for any signs of dairy intolerance or allergy.
Always consult with a healthcare professional if you have concerns about introducing dairy products like cottage cheese during weaning.
Ingredient information
Eggs - I have used free range eggs for the recipe, a great baby led weaning ingredient used for many baby safe recipes such as scrambled eggs or a frittata recipe.
Cottage cheese - Full-fat cottage cheese is a great weaning ingredient, you can blitz out the lumps in a food processor if you like.
Cinnamon - I have used a little cinnamon for added sweetness and flavour.
Parsley - I have added a little parsley for a little colour and garnish, completely optional if you do not have any to hand.
Olive oil - I have used olive oil to fry and cook the omlette, you can use an unsalted butter if you like.
Serving suggestion
The omlette would be great served with a selection of cucumber batons, extra grated cheese, a tomato sauce for dipping or a homemade ketchup.
Potato smiles or sweet potato crisps would also be a great addition to compliment this recipe.
Why not try a strawberry dessert, blackberry cheesecake or a mango pot as a delicious dessert.
Storage instructions
The protein-packed cottage cheese omelette can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days, stored in an airtight container.
If you wanted to freeze the omlette you will need to make sure that the omlette has cooled down before transferring to either a freezer bag or airtight container.
Ensure that the bag/airtight container is labelled with the item and the date. I use masking tape to label the airtight container.
To defrost the omlette, leave in the fridge overnight and make sure that they are fully defrosted, before re heating.
To reheat cottage cheese omelette recipe, place the omlette in an oven proof dish and reheat on a medium heat on 180C/350F for 10 minutes. Check they’re not too hot before serving.
Once the omlette has been defrosted you will not be able to reheat or refreeze.
Equipment used to help with this recipe
Frying pan - I love the non-stick surface of this particular frying pan and it’s suitable for all types of hob.
Airtight container - I much prefer the click-shut lids on these containers compared to others. They are also dishwasher and freezer safe and BPA free, so very suitable for food use.
