    Healthy Cereal Bars For Kids

These 3-ingredient Cheerios bars recipe, made with simple ingredients such as this Cheerios cereal, honey, and peanut butter, are a perfect snack for after school for children aged one and older.

The combination of crunchy Cheerios provides a delightful texture that appeals to little ones, while the natural sweetness of honey makes these bars a treat they will love.

Peanut butter adds a boost of protein and healthy fats, which are essential for growing children, helping to keep them satisfied and energised until dinner time.

The simplicity of the tasty treat recipe allows for easy preparation, making it a convenient choice for busy families looking to whip up a nutritious and delicious snack.

    Can Babies Have Honey

Babies should not be given honey until they are at least one year old. This restriction is due to the risk of botulism, a rare but serious illness caused by bacteria that can produce spores in honey.

Infants under 12 months have immature digestive systems that are not equipped to handle these spores, making them susceptible to the effects of botulism.

After the age of one, a baby's digestive system has developed sufficiently to process honey safely, reducing the risk of infection.

Therefore, it is important to wait until this age before introducing honey into a child's diet.

    Ingredient information

Cheerios - Plain cheerios are a a great alternative breakfast for babies over 12 months of age. They can also make a great snack idea on the go. You could use honey nut cheerios for older kids too if you prefer or you can use rice krispies to make rice krispie treats.

Peanut butter - I have used an 100% smooth peanut butter for this recipe, you could also use almond butter, cashew butter or hazelnut butter too if you prefer or a mixture of the two.

Honey - I have used honey so that the bars stick together. Honey can only be consumed by babies from 12 months of age and over.

    Storage instructions

The no bake treats can be stored in the fridge for up to 5 days in the fridge in an airtight container.

They can also be frozen for up to 3 months in the freezer, they can be stored in an airtight container or wrapped in plastic wrap.

You can just store the bars in the freezer in an airtight container if your kids prefer a firmer bar.

Equipment used to help with this recipe

Sheet pan - Stainless steel ovenware trays that are dishwasher safe and ideal for baking cookies, roasting vegetables, cakes, pies and pizzas. The list is endless!

Airtight container - I much prefer the click-shut lids on these containers compared to others. They are also dishwasher and freezer safe and BPA free, so very suitable for food use.

Large bowl - Definitely choose a stainless steel one - they are lighter than the stone or glass ones and very easy to clean.
