Bananas for BLW
Bananas are a good choice for baby-led weaning because they’re naturally soft and easy for tiny hands to hold, reducing the need for purees or complicated prep.
They provide a gentle, sweet flavour that most babies accept readily, making them ideal for first tastes and encouraging self-feeding.
Nutritionally, bananas deliver quick energy through easily digestible carbohydrates, along with important nutrients like potassium for muscle and nerve function, vitamin B6 for metabolism and brain development, and vitamin C for immune support.
Their creamy texture can be mashed onto fingers or offered as a thick wedge to promote chewing skills and oral motor development, while their low allergenic potential makes them a safe option to introduce early.
Banana bites
Golden banana slices lightly fried in unsalted butter with a dusting of warm ground ginger are a tiny tastebud party for babies and such an easy recipe — soft enough to chew and mash with little gums, slightly caramelised for a hint of sweetness, and just spiced enough to introduce new flavoursy without being overwhelming.
The pan-cooked edges give a bit of texture for curious fingers to explore while staying tender in the middle so even early feeders can manage them safely; butter adds healthy fat for brain development and helps the ginger stick so every bite has that gentle, cozy zing.
They’re perfect for BLW because they’re easy to hold, naturally portioned, and encourage independent eating, plus they’re quick to make and smell like snack-time magic that’ll have tiny hands reaching in before you can say “more please.”
