Ingredient information
Flaky tuna - I have used tuna in spring water for this recipe, this is what I buy for my family, you can use other varieties but I find for baby this one is best.
Carrot - I have grated a carrot for the recipe as this is great to do from 6 months old. You don’t have to cook the carrot when grated either. If you wanted to add in a little cooked red onion in olive oil and lemon juice too you could to elevate the flavour of the salad.
Cucumber - I have also grated the cucumber for the recipe. This makes for a really nice pasta recipe and great for picky eaters when the veggies are grated as they can be a little hidden and colourful within the recipe.
Pasta - I have gone with a penne pasta for this recipe. This is a great pasta for baby led weaning. You could use an orzo pasta or Rigatoni as alternatives.
Serving suggestion
You can serve this cold pasta recipe, hot or cold, personally my son and I prefer the recipe cold.
You could serve with more veggies such as steamed broccoli or green beans it’s completely up to you.
Try adding a dollop of sour cream or Greek yogurt on top for extra creaminess to make a creamy tuna pasta salad. A great way to add in nutrition to any dish.
The great recipe is a complete meal so it can be served on its own.
The great tuna salad recipe is a great lunchbox recipe just make sure it is in a cool bag and kept at a fridge like temperature.
You could follow the meal with a peach melba, strawberry dessert or a blackberry cheesecake.
Storage instructions
The simple tuna pasta salad recipe can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days, stored in an airtight container.
If you wanted to freeze the classic tuna pasta salad you can do this easily.
Store in an airtight container and make sure that the tuna pasta is being frozen straight from the fridge.
If the tuna pasta has been at an ambient temperature I would not recommend freezing the pasta.
To defrost the pasta leave in the fridge overnight and make sure it is fully defrosted before serving.
Once defrosted you will not be able to refreeze and best to eat on the same day.
