    Benefits of Plain Yogurt

Plain yogurt offers several benefits for babies practising baby-led weaning.

It is a soft, easy-to-eat food that supports the development of chewing skills without posing a choking risk.

Rich in calcium and protein, yogurt contributes to healthy bone growth and overall development.

Its probiotic content can help promote a healthy gut microbiome, aiding digestion and potentially reducing the occurrence of common digestive issues.

Offering plain Greek yogurt and peanut butter is a great way babies get accustomed to natural, unsweetened flavours, encouraging a preference for wholesome foods as their taste buds grow. A great alternative to a vanilla yogurt or flavoured yogurt.

When To Give Baby Peanut Butter

Peanut butter can be introduced to babies around six months of age, once they have shown readiness for solid foods and have no known family history of nut allergies.

For baby-led weaning, offering smooth peanut butter diluted with a little water, breast milk, or formula helps reduce choking risks and makes it easier for the baby to handle.

Always consult a health visitor before introducing peanut products, especially if there are allergy concerns, and start with small amounts while observing for any adverse reactions.

Other Ways To Serve Yogurt To Baby

Yogurt can be served to babies in a variety of ways to suit baby-led weaning.

Try offering thick Greek yogurt dolloped onto soft fruit slices such as banana or mango, allowing your little one to explore different textures and flavours.

You can also freeze yogurt in moulds to create natural ice lollies, perfect for teething relief.

Mixing yogurt with mashed avocado or cooked pureed vegetables introduces savoury options, broadening taste experiences.

Combining yogurt with small pieces of soft cooked oats or finely chopped soft berries offers a balanced and nutritious finger food that encourages self-feeding.

Yogurt - I have used a plain Greek regular yogurt for this recipe. Served in a jar is one of the nicest and simplest ways to serve whole-milk Greek yogurt to baby. Great to make in a big batch too.

Natural peanut butter - I have used a 100% nut butter for this recipe without any added sugar or added salt or palm oil.
