How to prepare mango for baby led weaning

To prepare a baby led weaning mango from 6 months old, start by selecting a ripe, fragrant mango.

Choosing fruit full of natural sugar is better than adding refined sugar for baby starting solid foods.

Remove mango skin carefully and cut the flesh into long, manageable strips or thick batons that your baby can easily hold, this is a great finger foods size from 6 months of age.

The mango slice should be soft enough to squish between your fingers but firm enough to avoid being a choking hazard.

Avoid cutting the mango into small cubes, as these can be difficult for little hands to grip. I have found with my son this is best from around 6-9 months old.

Always supervise your baby while they explore and taste the mango, ensuring they are seated upright and ready to self-feed.

What is a good combination with mango

Mango pairs wonderfully with a variety of flavours and textures suitable for baby-led weaning.

Its natural sweetness complements creamy options such as avocado, which provides healthy fats and a smooth consistency that is easy for little ones to handle.

Mild cheeses like mozzarella or ricotta work well with mango, offering a savoury contrast while remaining soft enough for babies to eat safely for a healthy recipe.

Combining mango with soft cooked vegetables, like sweet potato or butternut squash, introduces a balance of flavours and nutrients, encouraging diverse taste experiences for the first time.

When serving homemade baby food, ensure all foods are cut into manageable sizes to support independent self-feeding.

    Ingredient information

Mango - Mango baby-led weaning recipe is a great recipe for baby and toddler. I offer mango a lot to my son as he loves it, so it is nice I have created a different way to serve mango to my son.

Oats - Oats are a great way to add to many different recipes such as oaty bars or pancakes.

Flaxseed - Flaxseeds are a great way to add in some extra nutrition to the recipe. You can use milled chia seeds as well if you like.

    Serving suggestion

The no added sugar cookies would be great served with plain Greek yogurt or you could serve alongside quartered strawberries, squished blueberries or a ripe banana. Great for a toddler snack when they are demanding a snack!

You could also serve with a 100% smooth peanut butter for dipping or even better finely-grated coconut.

    Storage instructions

Storing the healthy oatmeal cookie recipe in the fridge cooked:

All you will need to do is store the baby cookie recipe in an airtight container or a freezer-safe container or even tightly wrapped plastic wrap and keep in the fridge for up to 5 days.

Just make sure the cookies are at room temperature before packaging up.

You can also store the cooked oatmeal cookies in the freezer in the same way for up to 3 months.

Store the cookies in the freezer raw:

All you will need to do is place the raw cookies in an airtight container spaced out in the container in a single layer, you will need a large one or you can place on the baking tray wrapped in plastic wrap if you have enough room.

When you decide to cook the healthy cookies from frozen you will need to cook an extra 5 minutes or so.

Equipment used to help with this recipe

Airtight container - I much prefer the click-shut lids on these containers compared to others. They are also dishwasher and freezer safe and BPA free, so very suitable for food use.

Baking sheet - I have chosen to use a non-stick and BPA free baking sheet - they are easy to clean and, if you buy more than one, easily stackable and easily stored.

Large bowl - Definitely choose a stainless steel one - they are lighter than the stone or glass ones and very easy to clean.

Nutri bullet - I have found a blender to be an invaluable tool in the preparation of many of my baby led weaning recipes.
