Courgette For BLW
Courgette, also known as zucchini, is an excellent ingredient for baby-led weaning due to its soft texture and mild flavour, making it easy for little ones to grasp and chew.
Packed with essential vitamins and minerals, such as vitamin C and potassium, courgette supports healthy growth and development. Its high water content helps to keep babies hydrated while introducing them to various tastes and textures.
Courgette can be cooked in numerous ways—steamed, roasted, or even spiralised—adding versatility to mealtime and encouraging exploration of flavours for your little one.
Ingredient information
Courgette - These are a great BLW ingredient and they can be used in so many recipes such as courgette fries or a lime and courgette cake.
Almond flour - This flour is a great alternative to self raising flour or plain flour, for nut free babies you could use oat flour instead.
Oregano - I have used oregano for a little added flavour, This is a great herb to use across so many recipes so good to have on hand. You could add a little fresh lemon zest too if you like for added zing!
Smoked paprika - I added a little smoked paprika for added flavour you could use regular paprika too.
Serving suggestion
These easy courgette fritters are a great recipe would be great served with shredded chicken or to keep it veggie you could serve with mashed black beans and spring onion or mashed kidney beans.
You could serve with a lemon yogurt dip (which is just lemon juice and Greek yogurt) a great way to help little hands to enjoy a fun great lunch, great for lunch boxes too.
Other fritter recipes you may like: Carrot fritters, apple fritters or Broccoli fritters.
Storage instructions
The fritters once cooled, can be stored in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 3 days. If you wanted to reheat the fritters, you will only be able to reheat once from the fridge.
I would suggest heating them up in the oven on a baking tray with parchment paper, at 180 degrees, for 15 minutes. Leave to cool before serving to your baby.
To store in the freezer, leave the fritters to cool to room temperature and store in an airtight container or in an airtight freezer bag. They can be kept in the freezer for up to 3 months.
Once thawed and reheated they will not be able to go back in the freezer.
Equipment used to help with this recipe
Box grater - I like a stainless steel grater and this one comes with two grater plates and a secure, snap on lid so you can directly store leftover grated food in the fridge.
Airtight container - I much prefer the click-shut lids on these containers compared to others. They are also dishwasher and freezer safe and BPA free, so very suitable for food use.
Frying pan - I love the non-stick surface of this particular frying pan and it’s suitable for all types of hob.
