This chocolate chip flapjacks recipe is an excellent after school snack idea because it combines the perfect balance of sweetness and nutrition, providing children with a satisfying energy boost after a busy day.
Made with wholesome oats, it offers sustained release carbohydrates to keep little ones fuelled until dinner, while the dark chocolate chips add a touch of indulgence that makes the treat enjoyable without being overly sugary.

Ingredient information
Oats - Porridge oats are a great weaning ingredient that can be made into many different recipes such as porridge and muffins. You can use gluten free oats if your little one is very sensitive to gluten.
Yogurt - I have used Greek yogurt as a sweetener instead of the usual golden syrup used in a flapjack recipe.
Chocolate chips - I have used dark chocolate chips instead of milk chocolate chips for the chocolate flapjacks, they are low in sugar therefore they are unsweetened chocolate and naturally dairy free too if you choose a chocolate chip that is 70-80% cocoa. A great vegan alternative which is a healthier alternative.
Flaxseed - I have used flaxseed for these perfect flapjacks for added nutrition for the flapjacks, you cannot taste any different so they are great to add into a muffin or snack recipe.
Peanut Butter - I have used a squeezy peanut butter as this is perfect for drizzling. You can melt a little peanut butter instead.
Serving suggestion
The chocolate chip flapjack recipe would be great served with a fruit puree or with a mango pot or drizzled with more smooth peanut butter or your favourite nut butter, or simply some low sugar authentic vanilla ice cream.
You can simply serve the healthy flapjacks on their own as a snack on the go, breakfast on the go or as a lunchbox item that will keep older kids filled up throughout the day.
Other sweet treat recipes you may like: Oats and apple cookies, Breakfast bars for baby, Oat bars or Berry bliss balls for baby.
Storage instructions
Once the homemade flapjacks have cooled and at room temperature, you can store the flapjack recipe in airtight containers large or small, in the fridge for up to 5 days.
Or you can wrap individual bars in plastic wrap and store individually.
The basic flapjack recipe can be stored in airtight containers or a freezer bag and kept in the freezer for up to 3 months.
Great for bringing out when you need them!
To defrost the chocolate flapjack recipe from the freezer, leave the bars in the fridge overnight. Once defrosted they will keep for 3 days in an airtight container.
Do not re freeze, once defrosted.
Equipment used to help with this recipe
Large bowl - Definitely choose a stainless steel one - they are lighter than the stone or glass ones and very easy to clean.
Baking dish - A pink ceramic oven to table dish that is dishwasher and freezer safe.
Airtight container - I much prefer the click-shut lids on these containers compared to others. They are also dishwasher and freezer safe and BPA free, so very suitable for food use.
