Banana Popsicles
Banana fruit popsicles are an excellent recipe for toddlers as the summer months approach because they provide a naturally sweet, nutritious, and hydrating kid-friendly recipe that is easy for little hands to hold.
Bananas offer essential nutrients like potassium and vitamin B6, supporting energy and development, while the frozen texture helps soothe teething gums and keep toddlers cool in warmer weather.
These popsicles can be made quickly with simple ingredients and without added sugars, making them a healthy and convenient snack option for parents seeking to introduce wholesome flavours to their child's diet.
Frozen Banana
Babies can typically be introduced to frozen banana around six months of age, coinciding with the start of baby-led weaning when they begin exploring solid foods.
Frozen banana pieces should be soft enough to gnaw on safely, making them an ideal teething aid and first finger food.
It is important to ensure the banana is cut into manageable sizes to prevent choking and always supervised during eating.
Introducing frozen banana at this age provides a nutritious, natural sweetness that is gentle on the digestive system and rich in essential vitamins and minerals.
Ingredient information
Banana - Ripe bananas are great for baby led weaning. Freezing a banana is a great idea to make a quick and easy and fun ice lolly recipe.
Sprinkles - I have used a few sprinkles as an idea for a topping. These are not to be used from 6 months old, they are ok to use from at least 2 years old.
Oats - Another great topping to get some good nutrients into your kids diet.
Peanut butter - A little drizzle of peanut butter is a lovely addition and goes really well with banana.
Yogurt - I have used a plain Greek full-fat yogurt for the recipe which adds nutrition, creaminess and protein.
Baby biscuit - I have used a baby biscuit and used this as a topping on top of the yogurt.
Serving suggestion
The homemade banana popsicles are great served on their own! You can serve them after a main meal such as spaghetti bolognaise, cottage pies or a bean burger. Or why not make them fun breakfast popsicles.
Do not leave them at room temperature as they will melt on a hot day.
Why not make a fresh fruit strawberry puree using fresh strawberries blitzed in a food processor or Nutri Bullet, for dipping.
You could add another nut butter such as peanut butter or tree nuts blitzed or as served as a butter to drizzle over the ice lollies.

Storage instructions
The delicious popsicles are best kept in the freezer as they are a freezer item.
The easy banana popsicles can be kept in the freezer for up to 3 months which is great! If the lollies defrost you will not be able to re freeze.
Once frozen overnight you can remove the healthy popsicles and store in a freezer bag or an airtight container.
Equipment used to help with this recipe
Popsicle stick - A wooden stick with a smooth surface and rounded edges to ensure they are safe to use for children.
Airtight container - I much prefer the click-shut lids on these containers compared to others. They are also dishwasher and freezer safe and BPA free, so very suitable for food use.

This is a yummy quick and easy recipe for toddlers and baby. They can be customised for baby very easily and can be great for teething gums.
Ingredients
Instructions
- Start by peeling your bananas. Once peeled cut them in half so that you have 4 pieces of banana.
- Taking your lolly sticks, push them up the centre of the banana. I find it easier if I choose quite a straight banana for this recipe.
- Next using a spoon spread the yogurt over each banana and leave on a plate or baking sheet with parchment paper and repeat.
- Sprinkle over each topping on each banana and pop the bananas into the freezer for at least 8 hours.
- You can store in individual lolly bags or an airtight container with parchment paper.
Notes
You can choose other toppings for the popsicles such as freeze dried fruit or other nut butters.
Be mindful if you are serving to baby you will need to make sure you use age appropriate toppings.
Hope you and your whole family enjoy!
