Blackberries - These are great for baby-led weaning and beyond. They are perfect in this recipe as they make the oat bars a lovely purple colour which is enticing for baby and those fussy eaters.
A great recipe for the whole family to enjoy. You could use other fresh berries such as summer berries, raspberries or strawberries.
Using a different type of berry will be great to change up the recipe slightly.
Oats - I have used rolled oats for this recipe as I feel works the best as they combine well with the other ingredients.
If you wanted to achieve a smooth texture, you could blitz the oats in a food processor to make an oat flour.
For gluten-free babies you could use gluten-free oats or almond flour.
Greek yogurt - I have used a plain Greek style yogurt for the recipe. For dairy free babies you could swap for a dairy free alternative or use 50ml of water instead.
Serving suggestion
The breakfast bars would be great served with extra plain Greek yogurt for dipping or simply on their own as a breakfast on the go or a lunch box item for school lunches.
You could spread a little smooth peanut butter, almond butter or even some cream cheese over the blackberry bars or use the nut butters for dipping.

Storage instructions
The oat bars can be stored in the fridge for up to 5 days, if stored in an airtight container and left at room temperature before transferring to an airtight container.
If you wanted to freeze the the oat bars, you will need to get yourself a freezer bag or an airtight container.
Make sure that which ever you choose are labelled with the item and the date. I use masking tape to label the airtight container.
The oat bars will store in the freezer for up to 3 months.
To defrost the oat bars, leave in the fridge overnight to defrost and make sure it is fully defrosted, before serving.
Once the oat bars have been defrosted you will not be able to re freeze.
Equipment used to help with this recipe
Baking tray - I have chosen to use a non-stick and BPA free baking sheet - they are easy to clean and, if you buy more than one, easily stackable and easily stored.
Large mixing bowl - Definitely choose a stainless steel one - they are lighter than the stone or glass ones and very easy to clean.
Airtight container - I much prefer the click-shut lids on these containers compared to others. They are also dishwasher and freezer safe and BPA free, so very suitable for food use.

Easy Blackberry Oat Bars Recipe For Baby and Toddler
This is a great on the go breakfast for baby and toddler. Great for picky eaters.
Ingredients
Instructions
- Heat oven to 180C or 350F. Prepare a baking sheet with a sheet of parchment paper and set aside.
- Pop the blackberries into a food processor or Nutri bullet, and blitz to a puree.
- Pour the blackberry puree into a large bowl along with the rolled oats and Greek yogurt.
- Mix together the blackberry mixture using a spoon and then bring together the remaining oat mixture using your hands, to form a large ball.
- Place the dough onto a work surface and press down using your hands, you can use a rolling pin, but I find using my hands works well. You can dust the work surface with a little flour if you like as the mixture sometimes can get sticky, but this step is not 100% necessary.
- Once you have approx 1cm in thickness, using your hands you can make the dough into more of a square shape.
- Using a knife cut the dough into 6 bars. Using a knife to remove the bars from the work surface place on your prepared baking pan. You can use a pastry cutter too if you like to make fun shapes.
- Place the oat bars in the oven for 15 minutes until golden brown.
- leave the oat bars to cool on the baking tray or on a wire rack.
Notes
To make the blackberry oatmeal bars recipe gluten-free, it is best to use gluten free oats to be sure the recipe is safe for gluten-free babies.
You can also make the recipe dairy free and vegan by using a dairy free Greek yogurt.
