Can I Give My 6 Month Old Grilled Cheese?

Yes! My son loves cheese sandwiches, and so do I! I do like to always use wholemeal bread and/or seeded bread when making a sandwich for my son or for myself.

My son likes a cheese sandwich or even cheese on toast! But a grilled cheese sandwich is another level, in my opinion.

He really does find a grilled cheese so tasty, and with the wholemeal bread, makes for a nutritious lunch.

The grilled cheese is best eaten cooled from the pan, but it can be as part of a lunch box too, as it will still taste great! The fact that it is shaped like Mickey Mouse as well makes for a special sandwich.

I have decided to add in the olives and chargrilled red pepper as they are yummy. My son loves both of these and they are delicious and soft.

The pineapple, mint and lime combination is so refreshing and winning in flavour! I have used small Mickey Mouse cutters for the pineapple as well to compliment the Mickey Mouse theme, and makes the lunch fun!

How To Cut Grilled Cheese For Baby Led Weaning?

To make grilled cheese cheese toastie suitable for baby-led weaning (BLW), it is essential to cut it into appropriately sized pieces for your little one to handle easily.

Start by allowing the grilled cheese to cool down to a safe temperature for the baby to touch. Once cooled, carefully slice the grilled cheese into long, thin strips or small bite-sized pieces, depending on your baby's chewing abilities.

Avoid large chunks that may pose a choking hazard. By cutting the grilled cheese into manageable pieces, you can encourage self-feeding and exploration while ensuring a safe and enjoyable eating experience for your baby during BLW.

    Ingredient information

Wholemeal bread - If I’m making a sandwich with a slice of bread, I like to use wholemeal bread because of the nutritional value.

Mature cheddar cheese - Hard Cheddar cheese is great for extra calcium, so important for growing children. You could add a layer of cream cheese too! All ok from 6 months old.

Unsalted butter - I use unsalted butter for flavour, as it’s so yummy as part of a grilled cheese.

Chargrilled red pepper - These are great as they are so soft, great for weaning and so much flavour.

Green olives - My son loves olives, so these could be left out for some cucumber or even some avocado if you prefer.

Pineapple - So tasty and so yummy! Delicious and sweet!

Mint leaves - Mint works so well with pineapple! Give it a go!

    Serving suggestion

This can be served on its own perfectly. If you did want to serve this with anything else, some cooked shredded chicken pieces to add some extra protein.

Or you could serve some plain natural Greek style yogurt to go alongside the pineapple and mint. Delicious!
